Journal Cycle 3: Better Relationships

Gratitude Miracles ... the 5-minute journal that could change everything! is organized into 13 4-week cycles to give you plenty of time to maximize the results of the practice.

Each cycle begins with a short snippet about the featured benefit of that cycle. This is the snippet for Cycle 3: Better Relationships.

A new study shows that feelings of gratitude were the most consistent predictor of marital quality among couples of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Couples who are more grateful for one another report being closer, more committed, and having greater mutual relationship satisfaction.

Maria Hillel says that the benefits of greater gratitude within relationships include:
“You can more easily accept others and yourself. We are all imperfect people seeking the best possible life. There is no reason not to be friends.
“You no longer take anything personally. Life presents difficult challenges for everyone; it’s not just about you.”

Journal Cycle 2: Health & Fitness

Gratitude Miracles ... the 5-minute journal that could change everything! is organized into 13 4-week cycles to give you plenty of time to maximize the results of the practice.

Each cycle begins with a short snippet about the featured benefit of that cycle. This is the snippet for Cycle 2: Health & Fitness.

Studies have shown that people who regularly practice feeling thankful have a leg up when it comes to their health. Robert Emmons, a psychology professor at the University of California at Davis, has been a leading researcher in this growing field, termed “positive psychology.” His research has found that those who adopt an “attitude of gratitude” as a permanent state of mind experience many health benefits.

Deepak Chopra says, "Experiencing gratitude is one of the most effective ways of getting in touch with your soul. When you’re in touch with your soul, you eavesdrop on the thoughts of the universe. You feel connected to everything in creation. You embrace the wisdom of uncertainty and you sense yourself as a field of infinite possibilities."

Whether you consider gratitude a practical practice or a spiritual practice, studies show that it affects almost every aspect of your being.

Journal Cycle 1: Happiness

Gratitude Miracles ... the 5-minute journal that could change everything! is organized into 13 4-week cycles to give you plenty of time to maximize the results of the practice.

Each cycle begins with a short snippet about the featured benefit of that cycle. This is the snippet for Cycle 1: Happiness.

University of California at Davis researcher  Robert Emmons, Ph.D., states, “The best way to reap the benefits of gratitude is to notice new things you’re grateful for every day. Gratitude journaling works because it slowly changes the way we perceive situations by adjusting what we focus on. While you might always be thankful for your great family, just writing ‘I’m grateful for my family’ week after week doesn’t keep your brain on alert for fresh grateful moments.

“Opening your eyes to more of the world around you can deeply enhance your gratitude practice. Make a game out of noticing new things each day.

“Our relationships with others are the greatest determinant of our happiness. So it makes sense to think of other people as we build our gratitude.”

Emmons suggests that focusing our gratitude on people for whom we’re thankful rather than circumstances or material items will enhance the benefits we experience. And while you’re at it, why not include others directly into your expression of gratitude? One Happify.com activity involves writing a gratitude letter to someone who had an impact on you whom you’ve never properly thanked.
